I Would Describe Myself As
I am a passionately driven, yet grounded person known for thinking before jumping & maintaining a positive outlook in tricky situations.
I love telling stories (mostly true ones ;), as I've been blessed with so many.I was born in California, grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, and graduated from U. of Wisconsin with degrees in Psychology, Metalsmithing, & Ceramic Chemistry.
I spent my breaks during school traveling:
Building houses, farms, and gardens for the poor or homeless, back country camping, or touring the national music scene. As a result, I've worked & played in Canada, South Korea, Japan, the Nederlands, Africa and nearly every state in the U.S.
I like being at home, but I'm grateful that I still get out to travel at least a couple times a year. I'm open to exploring many things, but ultimately I'd like to find a long-term/life long companion who can be as comfortable with me on the couch as boarding a plane heading for 'destination amazing'.I have spent the last seven years as a crop production systems consultant within the urban farming movement, with a particular focus on organics, hydroponics, and aquaponics.
Our current food system is, well -scary to say the least, and my aim is to change that. I work with people who include national/ international entrepreneurs starting sustainable large scale farms, families wanting to supplement their needs with a backyard food system, or at-risk youth groups planting gardens or fruit & nut orchards in their local neighborhood park.
The fact that business is good is *hopefully* a positive sign for all consumers of food (whoever those folks are ;).
Currently I am designing and building a large food production system for a school in the Dallas area. When completed, I will stay on as the Greenhouse Director, to maintain the system and educate students, chefs, and politicians on the benefits of sustainable food production. Seriously, my mind is constantly blown by kids who can't even speak to where a tomato comes from and civic leaders who don't know what a food desert is.
